Everything that happens in “Applesauce” starts after one question is asked – “What is the worst thing you have ever done in your life?” Onur Tukel, who also directed this movie, plays Ron, and his character confesses that when he was in college he was in a frat party fight and accidentally cuts the hand of another man. All of a sudden, weird thigns happen, spawned by confessions from his friends, played by Max Cassella, Jennifer Pediger, and Trieste Kelly Dunn. Only about here when I discover that this is a black comedy with real dark elements – random severed body parts become part of the plot soon hereafter, and… I surprisingly wasn’t turned off by all of it. And the comedy part, which really never leaves the movie, gave me some very clear laugh out loud moments. This is one of those movies where bizarre things happen, and you exclaim WTF, and at the same time you laugh at the ludicrousness of it all. I kind of digged it, in a small scale kind of greatness (still greatness) The resolution of the movie, if you call it that, is kind of off-the-wall, but it is the sanest thing in the film. Bring your sense of humour here and you will have lots of dividends.
