Throuple (Television Thoughts: You Me Her, Audience Direct)

p12605717_b_v5_aaAt first there is an idea, and it sounds pretty good. Look at the press release for the new television show “You Me Her,” which plays on the Audience Direct Channel of Direct TV.

“You Me Her,” television’s first “polyromantic comedy,” infuses the grounded and relatable sensibilities of an indie rom-com with a distinctive twist. What begins as an impulsive  “date” between suburban husband Jack (Greg Poehler, “Welcome to Sweden”) and neophyte escort Izzy (Priscilla Faia, “Rookie Blue”) spins into a whirlwind three-way affair including Jack’s wife Emma (Rachel Blanchard, “Fargo”), who’s been keeping secrets of her own. Their “arrangement” soon breaks free of its financial bonds to become something else entirely – a real romance…

Yadda, yadda. All this really is a show about a ‘throuple,’ and. really, how does that work? I mean, does it? But this show is so boring. I am up to the fifth episode now, and why do I feel like nothing is happening. The pace is turtle-like, and really, it never kept my interest. Greg Poehler (Amy’s younger brother) seems like such a bland character here, and we don’t really understand why his character is attracted to Izzy, besides the sexual angle. I think this is more a lesbian love story between Izzy and Emma, which throws off the whole polyamourous relationship idea being sold by the series. There are more episodes to go, and I really do not feel like finishing them.
