Back Spain (Movie Thoughts: Menorca)

mwnorcIn Canadian John Barbard’s film ‘Menorca,’ Tammy Gillis plays Claire, a bad mom who chain smokes, drives drunk and has affairs with random men.  One day, she just up and leaves her family, and drives away, ending up at a strip club off a highway that goes nowhere. She starts dancing to save money. Why? Because her son took a rock when they were on vacation in Menorca Spain. He feels guilty taking the rock from its natural habitat so he asks his mom to take it back there. She does.  That basically is the gist of the movie.

Yes it’s weird, but somehow it is also strangely watchable.  You kind of want to know where the movie is trying to go, or if it would reach any kind of sensibility.
