I’ve had the sample of Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Grand Soir burning in my pile for so long that I told myself, just do it, just spritz. Don’t even think about it, just do it. I knew it was going to be amber, one of my most favorite notes of all time, and I also know it’s Kurkdjian, and I can just imagine what he can do with it.
If Grand Soir was a color, it would be gold. And this is the gold of all golds, the amber of all ambers. Dare I say? This is probably the best amber fragrance right now, and I want it last week. This definitely has just risen to the very top of my to-buy list. This amber is juicy, it is opulent, it is maybe too much, but oh just very right for me. It smolders in your skin, it eats your skin. Combined with labdanum and tonka bean, it has a hint of sweetness that’s not saccharine, and I see brown things in there – some wood, some oud, but they are all perfectly rounding the rich rich goldness in the scent. And I swear I get a hint of orange blossom here, it is a Kurkdjian after allI can’t remember loving something so much right away, my heart is beating fast right now. I’m getting nauseous now, I need so stop typing.
