If you want your standards sweet and wholesome, then Matt Belsante’s ‘Nice N Easy’ is perfect for you. Actually, the title is a perfect description for the disc, and this is not a slight in any way. Belsante has a nice smooth voice but it has no edge. This is an album you can take home to mother. When he is singing ‘I Got It Bad and That Ain’t Good,’ he sounds like he is talking about a cold. When he croons ‘One For My Baby,’ you just know there’s no chance he will be getting a DUI. The arrangements are slightly jazzy but this is pure pop singing. And it’s not a bad thing. I wouldn’t hesitate putting this on if I had a dinner party. This disc just doesn’t challenge me in any way. And sometimes that’s just okay.
