There’s a genre of jazz vocal I call The ‘Julie London’ sound. Jo Harrop’s CD ‘Songs For The Late Hours’ fits that genre accurately. In this album, Harrop is backed by her trio an she sings in a close and intimate style. Close your eyes and you will feel like you are in a smoky jazz joint, and it is almost at the end of the night, early morning perhaps, and you are just having one last drink before heading home. Needless to say, I liked this album a lot. She sings with languid vocals that go straight to the soul of these songs. My favorite track is ‘You Taught My Heart How To Sing,’ which closes the album.
