At this point in my life, I don’t know if I can tolerate ‘darkness’ as well as I used to. I was thinking of that while watching Colin Schiffi’s ‘All Creatures Here Below’ which is as depressing as a movie can get. It’s about a young couple running away from the law – a variation of Bonnie and Clyde. There’s nothing terribly original here, but it also suffers from a sense of hopelessness, and why ever would someone put out something like that? Ultimately, that’s my biggest dilemma with the film. There are strong performances from the leads (Karen Gillian and David Dastmalcian will do better things) but this film is just too bleak.
