I love coming of age films, how in a course of a year or a summer, a young boy learns a big lesson in life. The characters in Andrew Cividino’s ‘Sleeping Giant’ learns just that in a summer set in Lake Superior in Ontario. Three boys spend the summer lounging around an d getting into trouble, and in the end a tragedy occurs. I thought these characters were very vividly drawn, and I was particularly empathized most by Adam (Jackson Martin) the quiet introspective one fo the three. I have read that there were homoerotic contexts in the film. It’s subtle and you really have to look hard for it, but it’s there. This film stayed with me a bit afyter seeing it, so much so that I searched for Martin’s Instagram account.
